Services & Outreach Activities (Loving neighbors and self)

Dr. Martin Luther King Birthday Parade and Celebration Under the direction of Sister Michelle Scott, Holy Trinity for the first time this year will participate in the Long Beach Martin Luther King activities. We are looking to have at least 100 Holy Trinity members riding in our van, and float and marching carrying the banner of both Christ and the Church. The date of the event is January 13, 2003

Women’s Missionary Society: Under the current direction of Sister Charlotte Jackson, the goal this year is to adopt at least 50 women who are in recovery programs and provide some tangible support to them. This will range from personal items, clothes, reading materials, and toys for their children at their children’s birthday and at Christmas time. The Church will budget the cost of the gifts but the WMS will provide these tangible tokens of love to the women at the House of Uhuru. The WMS will meet at the church on the Saturday before the 1st Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Scholarships (New service) We would like to develop a system of providing on a quarterly basis at least book money to each of our members who are full time students in study at any college, local or distant. Additionally, rewards will be given on Missionary Day to those young people who have maintained a “B” or better average or who have improved their grades from the previous quarter, irrespective of what that previous grade point average was. A budget will be set up for this ministry of love and members would be encouraged to give to support our support of our students.

Young Women's Initiative The WMS will also be organizing a new unit known as the YWI or Young Women’s Initiative designed to encourage women of the age 19-39 to get involved in mission work.

Lay Organization: Under the current direction of Sister Gladys Carter, and the co-directorship of Dorothy Moore-Brown, the goal of the Lay Organization this year is to conduct quarterly food drives and quarterly clothes drives to be given to person in distress, from the homeless, those in recovery programs, those in domestic violence shelters. The solicitations will be from the congregation and our friends. The Lay Organization will decide which organization or location to which we will distribute these goods.

Usher Board Under the current leadership of Brother James Croom, the Usher Board will not only provide the wonderful “Door Keeper” function that has traditionally been its role, but this year will take on several new roles:

– That of Ambassadors for Holy Trinity. As Ambassadors, it will be the responsibility of the Ushers to keep in contact with every visitor to the Church until he or she becomes a member. This will mean the writing of letters, the contact by telephone, passing out church bulletins and brochures and reaching out to all visitors. The church will pay for the cost of all materials, but the Ushers will play the central role of taking the initiative in staying in contact with all of our visitors and guests.

-- Staying in contact with each other. At least on a monthly basis the Ushers will have a social function at someone’s home or in the community. It will also function in a manner similar to that of the Adult Choir with at least two persons functioning as Class Leaders for the Ushers.

Steward Board Under the current leadership of Sister Charlotte Jackson the Steward Board will continue its traditional role as outlined in the Discipline of the Church: 1. Account for the Funds of the Church 2. Determine the salary of the Pastor 3. Seek the needy and distressed in the Community 4. Make reports of the expenditures of all money 5. Attend Quarterly Conferences and other official meetings 6. Write letters to the membership 7. Register all marriages, baptisms and deaths 8. Provide for the Holy Communion 9. Conduct an annual pledge drive and survey of congregation 10. Certify membership

The major role however is being an example in the promotion of relationships. Each Steward shall be a Class Leader and will be responsible for maintaining close relationships with 5-7 families in our congregation. This will entail weekly communications with these families and making certain that all of the resources of Holy Trinity are focused on helping our membership and being of service to the membership.

The Steward Board will be responsible for the Quarterly Community Canvassing that will be done in the neighborhoods surrounding Holy Trinity. The canvassing drives will be open to the entire church but coordinated by the Steward Board. Flyers about the Church in English and Spanish will be distributed on the days of our Community outreach.

Stewardesses According to the Discipline of the Church, the main function of Stewardesses are to assist the Stewards in the discharge of their duties relative to the ritual of baptism and the Lord’s Supper. This includes providing the implements and elements, making preparation for Baptisms, and dressing the pulpit and altar rail for Communion.

This is the role that is carried out by Stewardess Board #1. It is the traditional role for the Mothers of the Church. Under the current leadership of Mother Dixon the Stewardess Board needs at least three or four additional Stewardesses.

Trustee Board: Under the current leadership of Brother Jesse Owens the Trustee Board will continue its traditional role as outlined in the Discipline of the Church:

1. Manage all the temporal concerns of the church and shall have a Treasurer elected by the Board. 2. Shall guard for the Connectional Church all real estate, church property, etc. 3. Shall make improvement upon the property or real estate when authorized to do so by the Church. 4. Secure a house for the pastor’s family, or in lieu of same, provide for housing allowance. 5. Pay moving expenses of the Pastor when moving from previous appointment.

Christian Education: Under the current leadership of Sister Luedna Reynolds this Department is responsible for our Church Study Hour, each week, both the preparation of the teachers and the classes for the students of all ages. Teachers are needed and anyone who is a member and can attend the monthly teaching/training classes which are held on the 1st Saturday each month at 10:00 a.m. are encouraged to join this activity.

It is our desire to start an After School Program which is designed primary to provide a safe, clean and positive environment for children in the community to come, do their homework, work on the computers and have a nutritious meal until their parents come home from work. We will need volunteers who love children and who could consistently serve this function.

Transportation Ministry: Under the leadership of Gerald Williams, this ministry is responsible for assisting to bring members to and from our services and community activities. It is our prayer that we can add one additional van with wheel chair capabilities in order to assist our Differently (Disabled) Abled Ministry.
